Get Your Animated Series Concept Pitch Ready

Do you have a cool idea for an animated series, but just don’t know how to pull it all together so you can take it to that next level? In this 6-week course, learn how to prepare an effective animated series pitch bible and who knows, maybe you have the next Gravity Falls, Hazbin Hotel or Spongebob Squarepants that will be entertaining the next generation of audiences. Learn what makes an idea ‘pitchable’ through defining the central theme, story, world and characters of your episodic series.
You’ll learn from an industry veteran all about this process, from concept to final idea that sets you up for pitching your idea to studios or laying the groundwork for your own successful indie production.

Learning Outcomes – Participants Will:
- Generate a core idea. What is the show?
- Develop the Series overview + themes
- Specify the targeted demographic and genre
- Identify main characters and the world they inhabit
- Create an episode + season structure along with the series arc
- Prepare the visual + tone references (pitch mood board)
- Pitch their final idea to their classmates and instructors
Requirements:
- Computer with dual monitors (recommended), microphone, and camera
- Stable Internet connection (wired connection recommended)
- Access to Google Docs or Microsoft Word
- Sketchbook and sketching materials (pencil, eraser)
- Digital drawing tablet/Cintiq/iPad (i.e., some sort of drawing tablet)
- Adobe Photoshop or drawing program of your choice (Procreate, IbisPaint, Infinite Painter, ClipStudio Paint, PaintTool SAI, etc.
Prerequisites:
- Students are not required to have any previous training or experience.
- Must be 16 years of age, or older.

Your Instructor:
Neil Hooson
Neil is an Art Director and Character Designer with 15 years of experience across games and broadcast animation, including work on Pete the Cat (Amazon Prime), Avatar Generations, Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast, LEGO Friends, and Disney's Club Penguin. He has led art teams at studios ranging from Disney Interactive to independent mobile developers, created original characters within major licensed franchises, and co-created three published children's book series with Macmillan and Penguin Random House. At the heart of it all is a love for creating worlds and characters that people connect with.
